& Quotes
When
it comes to right-wing media moguls, Conrad Black is second only
to Rupert Murdoch. Black’s Hollinger Corp. is one of the world’s
largest media empires, owning hundreds of newspapers and magazines
in the United States, England, Israel, and Canada, including the
Spectator, Chicago Sun Times, Montreal Gazette, Daily Telegraph,
and Jerusalem Post. At one point, Hollinger’s holdings in
Canada represented about one-third of Canada’s entire daily
circulation. (3)
Black,
who became a member of the British House of Lords in 2001, is closely
associated with a number of influential neoconservative figures
and right-wing think tanks. He is a close associate of Richard Perle,
who serves on Hollinger’s board, and is on the board of trustees
of the Hudson Institute and the Nixon Center.
According
to his Hudson bio, “Lord Black’s autobiography, A Life
in Progress, was published in 1993. His earlier book, Duplessis,
(1976), an authoritative study of modern Quebec history, was updated
and republished in 1998 as Render Unto Caesar. Mr. Black has also
been a commentator on political and economic issues in all the countries
where newspapers with which he is associated are published."
