Mark Lagon, a member of the State Department's Office of Policy and Planning, was associated with the Project for the New American Century and the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) before entering the administration. He has worked closely with a number of key right-wing figures, including Rep. Chris Cox on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Jeane Kirkpatrick at AEI. (1)
