  • Highlights & Quotes

Scheunemann, a well connected lobbyist with ties to various conservative outfits like the Project for the New American Century, worked for Deborah DeMoss when she ran a private intelligence operation for Sen. Jesse Helms in Latin America. DeMoss was Helms’ point person on Latin America policy for about 10 years, and helped design the U.S. administration’s rationale for overthrowing Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega. (7)

During his time working in the senate, Scheunemann worked on legislation and treaty ratification bills, including the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty in 1996, the Chemical Weapons Convention in 1997, and the enlargement of NATO in 1998. He also served as GOP policy coordinator on ballistic missile defense and technology transfers to China. (8)

He has worked closely with Bruce Jackson on NATO expansion issues, and served as a registered lobbyist for Latvia, Macedonia, and Romania. (9)
